Echo 520 is capable of transferring a range of different fluids including common liquids like TRIS-EDTA buffer used in oligonucleotide research and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) used in proteomics. The system automatically determines the fluid depth in each source well and adjusts the mechanisms so that droplets of precisely 2.5 nanoliters are transferred. Larger volumes are accommodated by increasing the number of droplets transferred. Depending upon the source plate, volumes as high as 10,000 nanoliters can be ejected in one continuous, multi-drop process. The system is automation ready and completely compatible with proprietary applications software for cherry-picking or for setting up dose-response experiments.
