DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Health authorities in Saudi Arabia have reported two more deaths from the MERS virus, from among 11 new recorded cases in the western city of Jiddah.

The health ministry says Jiddah's King Fahd hospital was referring incoming patients to other medical facilities on Tuesday after an employee there tested positive for MERS. A nurse at another hospital in the city had also earlier contracted the virus.

The official Saudi Press agency reported on Wednesday that two people who contracted the Middle East respiratory syndrome have died,

The deaths bring to at least 66 the number of people who died in the kingdom at the center of the outbreak.

SPA says three people are still receiving medical care.

MERS is related to SARS and was first identified in the Middle East.
