RNA-based Detection of Bacteria, Yeast And Mold



The microCompass system offers a combination of technologies that targets ribosomal RNA to detect bacteria, yeast and molds. The system provides sound and accurate data based on molecular biology that allows an operator to achieve results in a 4 hour time frame. It can be automated, requires little or no pre-enrichment of original sample, and offers reproducible results. The expected sensitivity of the system, which includes a Mechanical Lysis System, RNA Extraction Robot and the R.A.P.I.D. LT Thermal Cycler, is 100 cfu per sample or 1 cfu/ml with a 100 ml sample. The RNA Extraction Kit is suitable for the extraction and purification of total RNA from bacteria, yeast and mold. Product samples are filtered through the microCompass Spin Filtration Unit, then RNA Booster is added to equilibrate the ribosomal RNA pool. Microorganisms are lysed using a combination of mechanical and chemical lysis. Total RNA isolation is automated on a robotic platform using coated paramagnetic beads. Finally, the purified total RNA is eluted into a 96-well microplate, ready for real time RT-PCR. The RNA Extraction Kit includes Sample Lysis Buffer, Binding Buffer, Lyophilized DNase, DNase Buffer, Wash Buffers, Elution Buffer and microCompass Lysis tubes.
