Recombinant mouse proteins MBL-1 and MBL-2 are available from R&D Systems. Mannan binding lectin (MBL) belongs to the collectin family of innate immune defense proteins that bind an array of carbohydrate patterns on pathogen surfaces. Collectin family members share several common structural features including an N-terminal cysteine-rich domain, a collagen-like region, an α-helical coiled-coil neck domain, and a C-terminal C-type (Ca2+dependent) lectin or carbohydrate recognition domain. In mouse, MBL-1 and MBL-2 are the only collectins that can activate complement via the lectin complement pathway. Mouse MBL-1 and MBL-2 are produced mainly by the liver and secreted into the blood.
