Low-level tumor mutations and deletions in the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) gene can now be detected with simplicity and sensitivity using the EGFR Mutation Test Kit, the first in a range of oncology mutation kits from DxS. The EGFR Mutation Test Kit combines the specificity of AstraZeneca's ARMS (allele specific PCR) technology with the sensitivity of DxS' Scorpions signaling system to deliver a quantitative, validated test for EGFR mutations in tumor samples. Recently a number of studies have examined EGFR-targeted drugs whose activity has been observed in a subgroup of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. These studies have identified specific activating mutations within the tyrosine kinase domain of EGFR associated with the dramatic responses to therapy in this subgroup. In addition to the new EGFR test, DxS offers an in-house analysis service for a panel of oncology tests for the detection of mutations in the other kinase, genes including K-RAS and B-RAF.
