The APOPercentage Assay is specific for apoptotic cells (necrotic cells remain unlabelled), and is recommended for mammalian anchorage dependent cells with regular phospholipid composition. The assay avoids the requirement for prior fixation of the cells, cellular extraction or incubation with a labelled antibody or enzyme substrate. This colorimetric assay is as sensitive as a fluorescent assay, yet requires only commonly available lab equipment to perform: an inverted microscope (magn. × 100) and a microwell plate reader.
