Affymetrix, Inc., offers the fourth generation GeneChip® Scanner 3000, a microarray scanner that is about the size of a personal computer. Peak scanning performance is provided for applications including RNA expression and DNA analysis. Data from the instrument is compatible with data from previous experiments using GeneChip arrays, as well as with other Affymetrix instruments and software. Current arrays, including the Human Genome U133 array, are scanned in just five-and-a-half minutes. Image uniformity and accuracy result from a patented scanning system called the Flying Objective™. Its simple, high-numerical aperture optical architecture provides consistent excitation and emission paths over the entire scan field.
