Megapixel EMCCD Camera
The Cascade:1K EMCCD camera is equipped with a 1004 × 1002-pixel detection array. The camera’s megapixel detector uses “on-chip multiplication gain” to increase signal-to-noise ratio for low-light live-cell microscopy. This combination of high spatial resolution and sensitivity makes the 16-bit camera suited for spinning-disc confocal microscopy, high-resolution FRET detection, polarization/anisotropic imaging and time-lapse applications. To optimize readout, the camera operates a Texas instruments “TC285” frame-transfer device at 10 MHz. Signal-boosting technology is also utilized. The low-noise impact-ionization process enables multiplication of photon-generated charge right on the CCD, offering an alternative to traditional image intensifiers for many non-gated low-light-level applications.
