Cell Separation, Harvesting
The CARR® ViaFuge® V12 separation system provides fast, gentle, medium-to-large scale supernatant clarification and cell harvesting. A wide variety of mammalian and insect cells are rapidly separated with little to no damage, up to production scale quantities. The system reduces filtration requirements for supernatant clarification and enables high intact cell recovery for cell harvesting. Studies have shown that when the system is used for first-stage clarification of large volume (>1000 liter) cell culture, downstream depth filtration requirements can be reduced by over 90%. SoftStream™ feed system incorporated minimizes shear forces on cells. A low shear environment is possible by matching incoming feed to the bowl hub's rotational velocity, allowing efficient separation of shear-sensitive cells without cell damage. Minimizing cellular damage reduces the amount of debris, intra-cellular proteins and DNA that other centrifugation techniques generate. Closed system operation allows recovery of concentrated cells and clarified supernatant without breaking containment. ASME vessel construction enables steam sterilization.
