The ApoStrand ELISA provides sensitive, one-step and universal detection of apoptosis in a convenient 96-well format. It detects all forms of apoptosis including events that occur without DNA breaks or without activation of specific caspases. It is based on the sensitivity of DNA in apoptotic cells to formamide denaturation and the detection of the denatured DNA with an antibody to single-stranded DNA. The ApoStrand ELISA can detect 500 apoptotic cells per well and gives a linear response in the range of 500-5000 cells. It will not give a positive signal for necrotic cells. The kit can be completed in three to four hours and is suitable for high-throughput screening.
