New system for extended range nano focus control for microscopes features a 3 nm resolution piezo Z-stage integrated with a precise stepper motor focus drive. By combining the function of the piezo z-stage and the conventional motor high speed nano focus control over the full focus travel of the microscope. Software commands can be tailored to suit specific applications. Hardware synchronization is available for high speed data and image acquisition. Large specimens that may require an extended focus capture range such as multi-well plates, thick sections or culture dishes are easily accommodated.
