Direct-Labeled Probe
New 450 kb probe detects alterations to the HER-2/neu proto-oncogene (also called ERBB2), and is over-expressed in some breast, ovarian, prostate, and colorectal cancers, playing a possible role in tumor-cell proliferation, tumor invasion, and tumor metastasis. This probe, labeled with rhodamine (red), uses the Universal Linkage System (ULS) and detects amplification of the HER-2/neu gene region. Chromosome 17 Alpha-Satellite probe, labeled with fluorescein (green), serves as internal control and simultaneously defines the ploidy status of Chromosome 17. Probes are based on ULS technology that permits the linkage of labels to DNA, RNA, nucleotides, or proteins. They have also been tested and qualified on cultured cells and blood smears, and optimized for formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
