Macroscopic Fluorescence System

The Leica MacroFluo system combines the long working distance and large field of view of a stereomicroscope with the vertical optical path of a classical light microscope. This allows imaging very large fields and increases the accuracy of digital image processing, analysis, and measurement in research on whole adult mice, fully developed Zebrafish, chicken embryos, and Xenopus. Since these organisms tend to outgrow the FOV of standard stereomicroscopes, it is often quite difficult to attain high-quality, low magnification images of them. Additionally, the popularity of removing depth of field limitations from digital images via image stacking is increasing, so the on-axis MacroFluo will be a welcome addition to those labs wishing to capture publication-quality fluorescence images. A zoom ratio of 16:1 facilitates investigations from low to high magnification without changing the objective or focus plane. As zoom magnification increases or decreases, the illuminated fluorescence field automatically adjusts to fit the viewing field so specimens outside of view are not quenched. APO lens coatings allow imaging that is free from color distortions over the entire zoom range.
