Histone Deacetylases (HDAC) catalyze the hydrolytic removal of acetyl groups from histone lysine residues, a process which is associated with chromatin condensation and transcriptional repression. This HDAC Activity/Inhibitor Screening Assay Kit provides a fluorescence-based method for measuring HDAC activity in a 2 step process. In the first step, an acetylated lysine substrate is incubated with samples containing HDAC activity. Deacetylation sensitizes the substrate such that treatment with the HDAC developer in the second step releases a fluorescent product. The assay can be used for quantifying Class I and II HDAC activity from various sources or for the identification of HDAC inhibitors in high throughput screening programs.© 2008 Advantage Business Media.
