Fluorescent Proteins
MBL International has introduced the new CoralHue family of fluorescent proteins. Kaede, the first family member, emits an intense green fluorescence that is rapidly and irreversibly photoconverted to bright red upon exposure to UV or violet light (350 - 410 nm). Both green and red fluorescence are stable for months under normal aerobic conditions. The excitation lights used to elicit red and green fluorescence do not induce photoconversion, and Kaede fluorescence is easily detectable by standard flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy techniques. This unique property provides a simple, powerful technique for optical marking of individual cells.
