Liquid Media For Endothelial Progenitor Cells
EndoCult liquid medium is optimized for the growth of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) from human peripheral blood and bone marrow. The frequency of circulating EPCs may serve as a biological marker for vascular function and cardiovascular disease risk. For example, Hill et al. (Hill et al. 2003, NEJM; Vasa et al. 2001 Circ Res) described an in vitro assay that shows an inverse correlation between the number of colony-forming units of EPCs and the risk of cardiovascular disease in healthy men. There has been significant interest in the use of EPCs for vascular repair, new blood vessel growth during wound healing, and as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The company has standardized the EPC colony assay established by Hill et al. for the culture and quantification of EPCs from human peripheral blood and bone marrow and classified the colonies as early outgrowth colony forming unit, endothelial cell (CFU-EC).
