Charles River Proteomic Services, Inc. and GenWay Biotech Inc. have collaborated to produce avian IgY polyclonal antibodies (anti-Human Serum Albumin (HSA), anti-IgG, anti-Transferrin, anti-Fibrinogen, anti-IgA, and anti-IgM) that function as a fractionation step prior to protein separation, and enable a deeper understanding of protein function. The antibodies are covalently conjugated to microbead carriers to deplete abundant protein from serum and plasma samples. While the availability and proteomic content of plasma and serum samples make these matrices of particular interest, the large dynamic range of proteins (10¹⁰ - 10¹²) presents challenges to the accessibility of lower abundance proteins. By applying this technology in a fractionation step prior to protein separation, the researcher can specifically, reproducibly, and economically deplete matrices of the abundant proteins, enabling deeper penetration of the sample proteome to the less abundant proteins.
