This Genome Sequencer FLX System (developed using 454 Sequencing technologies) continues to expand the number of applications supported by next-generation sequencing instruments. The availability of the GS FLX Titanium reagents increases the throughput of the platform, providing 400 to 500 base pair sequencing reads and over 1 million sequencing reads in a ten-hour instrument run. The combination of shotgun sequencing using these long reads and paired-end sequencing (where sequencing tags are separated by 3 to 20 kilobase separations) allows it to support the de novo sequencing of complex genomes. Other applications supported include exon resequencing, metagenomics, and transcriptome studies that include full length cDNA sequencing.
