There’s a chance to take a walk with two giants of Manchester science this weekend.
Manchester tourist guide Chris Norwood is offering a guided walk as part of the Manchester Science Festival 2009.
It will be brought to life by actors playing the parts of the luminaries of the past, Ernest Rutherford and Alan Turing.
He has devised the walk to explore what the giants of the past have contributed to the pioneers of today.
Chris has worked with professional actors from the 24:7 Theatre Festival and a script writer.
In Rutherford's case the character will be using golf balls and a plum pudding to demonstrate the scientific breakthrough that he and his colleagues made in relation to the nature of the atom. Alan Turing will ask people on the walk to take the Turing test.
During the walk, Chris will also introduce the pioneering work that goes on in these fields at the University of Manchester today.
The walk will take place on Sunday 1 November from 11am to 12 noon, beginning at the Manchester Museum and winding its way to relevant locations around the University campus.
The walk is supported by Corridor Manchester.
The event cost £5 per adult, £2 per child. There’s no need to book, just turn up and pay the guide on the day.
Manchester Science Festival 2009 runs from 24 October to 1 November. The programme includes over 150 exciting science, engineering, technology, engineering and maths events for families and adults in venues across Greater Manchester.
The Festival brings together universities, organisations and key cultural partners from across the region. It is coordinated by the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) and is supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Siemens.
